Prof Philip Drew

Professor Philip J Drew in 1990 from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, University of London. Following periods of training in London, Yorkshire with Mike Kerin and John Monson and as a Lecturer in Cardiff with Professor Mansel he was appointed Senior Lecturer in General Surgery and Honorary Consultant General Surgeon in the Academic Surgical Unit, University of Hull in 2000. Subsequently he obtained the position of Professor within the Hull/York Medical School. In 2008 he was appointed as a Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. The Unit in Cornwall treats over 700 breast cancer patients a year.

He holds fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, and Glasgow and has a Master of Surgery degree from the University of London in Artificial Intelligence for Complex Data Analysis and a Doctor of Medicine with Honours from the University of Hull in Breast MRI.

In addition to his breast cancer work and cosmetic practice Professor Drew has an interest in gender affirming “top” surgery and has developed a minimal access approach to gynaecomastia surgery,
He has helped draft several UK national guidelines and works with various charities and organisations to provide education and support for the community. He is a member of the world professional association for transgender health (WPATH) as well as the ABSGBI and other breast cancer organisations.

He is a member of the Court of Examiners of the RCS Eng and an external examiner for the NUI and RCSI. He is Cornish but has Irish relatives in County Clare. Unfortunately, not close enough to qualify for an Irish passport.
